The Board of Trustees of Shwedagon Pagoda

The Board of Trustees is the Shwedagon Pagoda's governing board which receives its mandate from and reports to the Ovadacariya Sayadaws (a council of 11 most important and reverent monks who counsels the Board on the interests of the Shwedagon Pagoda). The Board of Trustees of Shwedagon Pagoda is responsible for the oversight of the Shwedagon of Pagoda. The Board has authority over dissemination of the Buddha Sasana (the Buddha Principles), maintaining the permanence of the Shwedagon Pagoda and providing the best services to the devotees. The Board of Trustees consists of nine members, three are appointed and six are elected. The Board maintains about 850 employees on its payroll. The Board also has association with about 70 volunteer groups that assist the Board in the daily maintenance of the Shwedagon Pagoda.
